2024 Lifesaving World Championships!

The Lifesaving World Championships were last held on the Gold Coast in 1988, and after 30 years of waiting they are set to be held back here on the Gold Coast in 2024.

The Championships are expected to attract more than 5,000 competitors from approximately 50 countries, with variety of age groups competing in events such as pool rescue surf boats, inflatable rescue boats, surf ski, board, surf swims, team events, beach sprints, flag and the intense Ironman/woman.

In addition, roughly 450 technical officials and 300 volunteers will be involved and more than 12,00 spectators and supporters are also anticipated to converge on the Gold Coast across the duration of the event.

The Lifesaving World Championships will be split between beautiful Kurrawa Beach and the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

International Life Saving President Graham Ford welcomed the announcement stating “Queensland has so many amazing tourist spots to go to, and I think you’ll find the majority of athletes will be staying and spending time in Queensland.”

Additionally, Surf Life Saving Queensland President Mark Fife said “Queensland is home to some of the world’s top beaches, many of them on the Gold Coast and I can’t think of a better location to showcase our sport to the world.”
